Government should come clean on GMO,Mumias East MP

Mumias East Hon.Peter salacia has call on government and ministry of agriculture to explain more about the genetically modified organic crops.

He said the National Biosafety Authority need to come out to carry out public sensitization across the country for all to understand what does it mean with GMO fertiliser.

He said as member of Agriculture comittee they are still doing more engagement to provide agreeable solutions to kenya when it comes to better fertiliser to the farmer.

“From my take this are selfish interests that seek to give a monopoly to international seed producers who will now have full control of the seed system at the behest of farmers”.he said

Researchers noted that the exponential rise in population growth, and the shrinking size of arable land for food production also forced the government to make difficult choices.

Countries which has withdrawn from the GMO seeds include brazil,Burkina faso among others.
