Corporates Kenya

This was the key message PS mining Elijah Mwangi ,CBS, delivered today to local, regional and international mining investors during the inaugural KNCCI Mining Stakeholders Forum in Nairobi.

This forum whose theme was ‘Charting the Future of Kenya Mining Sector: Evaluating the Present and Forging a Path in 2024 for Enhanced Investment Attractiveness’ provided an apposite platform for stakeholders including government, county governments, institutions and players private sector to engage in exchanging ideas and opportunities that abound in Kenya’s mining sector.

I was privileged document the tremendous milestones achieved by government in opening up and enhancing production of this critical sector.

Some notable achievements include automation and digitization of critical services like mining cadastre, revenue information management systems, laboratory and library information management systems; formalization of artisanal miners through formation of cooperatives, completion of National Geophysical Aerial Survey, the launch of ground truthing activity; getting strategic investors to revive fluorspar mining, employment of additional experts to bolster the sector amongst others.

Kenya’s mining sector, while relatively young, possesses vast untapped potential to become a game charger for the envisaged economic transformation.

As a State Department, we are alive to the fact that mining sector carries the dream of transformation communities and bolstering Kenya’s economic revival. With the discovery of industrial, construction and strategic minerals, Kenya is rapidly emerging as a serious destination for mining investments.

With the reforms currently underway, we intend to address the challenges of illegal mining and smuggling of minerals to make Kenya’s mining sector a favorite destination for investors.

We are streamlining processes to enhance the ease of doing business and are confident of eliminating bottlenecks existing in this sector. We call upon stakeholders and partners in this sector to come walk with us and make Kenya soar.

Amongst the leaders present include Embu Governor Hon. Cecily Mbarire, EGH and her Baringo Counterpart Benjamin Cheboi, MD KenInvest June Chepkemei Dr. Erick Ruto, KNCCI President and other senior officials from organizations and groups that support mining sector.
