He is the Member of Parliament for Othaya Constituency in Nyeri County – the Honorable Wambugu Wainaina popularly known as Mt. Kenya. A kindhearted leader whose joy and greatest happiness is when he positively impacts somebody’s life, more so the less fortunate or the disadvantaged in society.
Through his Wambugu Wainaina Foundation, pooling resources from like-minded individuals and friends, Hon. Wambugu is rolling out a community transformation program not just in his constituency – Othaya, but far and beyond.
Notably, Hon Wainaina, a successful businessman, is building decent houses for those Constituents who have been living in deplorable conditions.
In an interview with The Mount Kenya Times on Monday, Hon. Wambugu shared with this writer his greatest source of motivation and why he embarked on such a program:
“One day during the campaigns, it was raining and I decided to shelter in a hut in one of the households. I was drenched because it was raining just like the outside – the roof was leaking terribly, and I promised to construct a decent house for that elderly woman. I did and she shed tears of joy in gratitude. That is just one example of the work I’m doing to dignify the lives of all Kenyans,” he said.
The social sphere is just one of his many projects. Under the education pillar, he welcomed the move by the National Government to increase the Constituency Development Fund, a transformative fund that has made several needy bright students realize their dreams.
“In Othaya, my goal and vision are to ensure equal access to education for all, regardless of their background. This is why I have set out my teams on the ground to assess the neediest cases which we are geared towards empowering with education through allocation of the bursary. I sat with my committee and we concluded that the NG-CDF is a very rich resource which, if prudently used, can transform the whole Nation. That’s why in Othaya we have made sure the NG-CDF goes to the bursary to benefit the most deserving cases,” he alluded.
Hon Wainaina also expressed confidence in the leadership of His Excellency the President, Dr. Hon. William Samoei Ruto, and his deputy his Excellency Rigathi Gachagua. He welcomed the leaders in his constituency on the visit to commission development projects.
